![]() He stayed at the Cecil Hotel a year before Elisa Lam. ![]() But as we all know, making a scary video doesn’t make you a murderer. Some of the scariest parts of The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel were the clips where they showed Morbid’s YouTube videos with him in his scary makeup. What the sleuths really homed in on were his music videos, which featured murder, violence, and even images of serial killers. Morbid had been a musician, actor, screenwriter, and photographer in Mexico for many years before the Lam internet sleuths became aware of him. To refresh your memory, here are a few very important facts you may not remember about Morbid…and some you may not have learned yet! He was a musician with some, er, spooky videos. Police have since confirmed that they are certain Vergara had nothing to do with Lam’s death, which has been ruled an accident. And they nearly destroyed his life over it. They then found videos of his music where he sang about death and violence, and they (inaccurately) put two and two together and assumed it HAD to be him. There were approximately a million and one crazy things that happened in that documentary (hello, Richard Ramirez allegedly being a hotel resident?), but one of the wildest and more tragic things was Pablo Vergara, the Mexican musician who goes by the stage name Morbid, being falsely accused by internet sleuths of murdering Elisa Lam.Īs you probably remember, internet sleuths looking into the seemingly suspicious death of Lam, who was found dead in the hotel’s rooftop water tank, found videos of Vergara at the Cecil Hotel. And if you’re really hard-core, you probably watched it all in one night (which I also did, so no judgment here!). Pablo lives in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn, with his wife Anath and his son Camilo. If you’re a fellow true-crime fan, then you’ve probably already watched Netflix’s newest docuseries, The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel. Performance credits include Newport Jazz Festival, Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, Washington DC’s Kennedy Center, Istanbul Is Sanat, Paris' Le Zenith, New York's Central Park SummerStage and Australia's Sidney Festival, amongst many others. He studied orchestration with Daniel Ott, counterpoint with Jonathan Pieslak and conducting with Vincent La Selva. Vergara studied at the Julliard School and at City College of New York and holds an MA in Music. He recently composed and produced the original soundtrack for Fernandez Almendras last two movies: Chilean box-office hit "My Amigo Alexis" -currently on Netflix- and the Czech black-and-white drama "The Play". ![]() The successful collaboration sparked Vergara’s interest in writing music for film. Vergara composed and produced the score for Alejandro Fernandez Almendras's ¨To Kill A Man¨, winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival and Dutch Circle of Film Critics Award at Rotterdam Film Festival. Since then he has worked with artists like saxophone legend Gato Barbieri, Dave Valentin, Claudia Acuña, Husnu Senlendirici, Fred Wesley, Ibrahim Maalouf, Edmar Castañeda, Alain Pérez, Bebel Gilberto, Mino Cinelu, Keith Carlock and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. A classically-trained pianist in his native Chile, Pablo moved to New York to study with some of his jazz heroes like Barry Harris, Ron Carter and Bruce Barth. Producer, pianist and composer Pablo Vergara is a Latin Grammy-nominated musician who has performed across five continents.
